This summer, a serious accident outside of Oklahoma City left one woman dead and another with serious injuries. The two women were hit by a speeding taxi, causing their car to overturn. The car's passenger was killed and the driver is still in the hospital with injuries that include gasoline burns. She was nearly paralyzed.
After the fatal accident, investigators discovered the drug PCP in the taxi driver's car. He is now facing a slew of charges, including first-degree manslaughter and driving without a valid license. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. As he fights the charges, however, the surviving accident victim fights for her life.
The woman has spent a third of this year in an intensive care unit because of the taxi driver's negligence. Although she was recently moved to a new facility, she still needs a ventilator to breathe. Despite the hardship she has faced, however, she remains thankful to be alive.
It is still difficult for her to cope with the fact that her friend's life was taken from her. Holidays, she said, are particularly difficult times. Somehow, she found it in her heart to forgive the driver who caused the accident, but it was not easy. They have relied on their faith to help them move forward.
When we think of a car accident in Oklahoma City, we think of the instant in which a crash happens. It is easy to forget that the repercussions of a car accident can be far-reaching, especially when a loved one is killed. Hopefully drivers in our area will take this into consideration and do their best to drive safely. It could go a long way toward preventing tragedy.
