Improper passing plays a role in deadly car accident

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol believes that improper passing was a contributing factor in a fatal car accident on U.S. Highway 77 near Oklahoma City. According to the report, the April 15 car crash happened when a 29-year-old driver of a pickup truck tried to pass a second vehicle by entering into the opposing lane of traffic. The driver failed to pass the vehicle and instead collided with an oncoming 2013 Chevrolet Impala. The report indicates that the pickup truck driver attempted to pass the first vehicle as it reduced its speed to make a left turn.

Two people were occupying the Chevrolet Impala at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, a 74-year-old passenger from Oklahoma City suffered internal injuries to the trunk of his body. The victim was initially rushed to Pauls Valley General Hospital and later taken to Oklahoma University Medical Center. Unfortunately, the injured passenger later died of his injuries. The 70-year-old driver of the Impala did not suffer any injuries.

Based on the report that the authorities have released, improper overtaking without sufficient clearance was cited as the cause of the collision because there was insufficient room when the pickup driver attempted to pass.

Negligent driving that results in a fatal car accident can be devastating for the victim's family. However, if the driver's negligence can be proven as the cause of the accident, the family who lost a loved one may be entitled to compensation that will help them cover funeral expenses, lost wages, medical expenses and emotional losses.
