Pedestrian killed in Oklahoma hit and run accident

Whatever method of transportation you prefer, at one time or another, we are all pedestrians on Oklahoma's roads. We've all been in the situation of trying to cross the road on foot, wondering if the oncoming cars are paying attention. And those fears are well founded. We were already plagued with drunk drivers and bad drivers and then the advent of smartphones added a whole new breed of danger: distracted drivers. People feel as if a quick glance at the phone isn't enough to cause any damage, but all it takes is one second of inattention to turn a pedestrian into a victim.

With all of these factors combined, it's no wonder we read stories about pedestrian accidents nearly every day. In late July, a woman was struck by a car around the site of the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The woman was killed in the crash. The driver of the car that hit her did the worst thing you can do in a situation such as this one: he or she fled the scene of the accident.

In an incident like this one, authorities typically conduct an investigation into the crash, collecting evidence that would indicate who was at fault. If they come up with clues and find the driver, they would then file charges against him or her.

It's important to remember that there's a difference between criminal charges and civil proceedings. Victims can contact an attorney, who may be able to conduct his or her own investigation into the crash. If negligence can be proven, the victims might be eligible for compensation for things like pain and suffering, medical bills, funeral costs and loss of wages.
