It is hard to believe that anyone could survive being hit by a car. It is even harder to believe that a 75-year-old man could survive being struck by an SUV. However, in Madill, that is exactly what happened. Now authorities are looking for the woman believed to be responsible for the hit-and-run accident that left one elderly man with serious injuries.
In the evening hours of a Wednesday, police responded to the report of a hit-and-run on the streets of Madill. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found a 75-year-old man lying in the southbound lane after an apparent hit-and-run. Witnesses say the man was walking across the street and allegedly in a lane for turning vehicles when he was struck by a dark colored SUV. The force of the impact knocked the man into the southbound lane. According to witnesses, the man tried to stand up after the impact and could not.
The driver, who witnesses say was an older woman, fled the scene of the accident. According to authorities the driver, if found, likely faces serious charges, which may include leaving the site of an accident that caused injury. The man injured was transported to a local hospital and treated for multiple broken bones and head, chest, and face injuries.
It is a common belief that many hit and run accidents are difficult to prosecute. Finding the responsible party hinges on several factors including eyewitness testimony, an accurate description, and a thorough investigation by authorities. Seeking the help of an attorney may be one of the first steps in an important and successful case.
