Standing With You

You probably know someone who has been in a car accident. Maybe you’ve been in one or two yourself. While a minor rear-end collision at a stop light can be no more than a big annoyance, a major pile-up on the highway can lead to serious injuries and deaths.

How many fatal car accidents occur in Oklahoma?

More than 600 people die in motor vehicle accidents each year in Oklahoma, according to state statistics. Do you know which types of accidents are the most deadly?

  • Accidents with 18-wheelers: Semi-trucks are one of the biggest dangers on the road and there are a number of factors that make this true. Their size in comparison to other vehicles, of course, is the number one reason. It is more difficult for them to slow down and stop, or to get out of the way of another driver. A normal-sized car that collides with an 18-wheeler will obviously be the biggest loser in a car vs. truck accident, putting drivers and passengers at serious risk.
  • Head-on collisions: When a head-on collision occurs, it is clear that a driver has made a serious error. Perhaps somebody is driving on the wrong side of the road, or maybe she or he has veered out of the correct lane. Regardless of the reason, this type of collision is undoubtedly one of the deadliest, and it will likely cause severe injuries to all involved.
  • Side impact collisions: An accident in which the side of a car is hit can be even deadlier, though. This kind of collision is also called a T-bone, and it is, unfortunately, one of the most common. It happens when drivers run red lights or are otherwise inattentive. If there is a driver or passenger on the side of the car that was hit, she or he can be seriously hurt.

It is important to know what to do after an accident. Accident victims and their families can be affected for years to come. Fortunately, you don’t have to go through the recovery process on your own.
